Who are the Basilian Lay Associates?

"He told them another parable 'The kingdom of heaven is like the yeast a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour till it was leavened all through.'" (Mt 13:13)

Vision

We are called in a special way to be leaven for our milieu. We are called to mix, to rise, to feed. We are called to offer hope, for hope is contagious. Hope is like yeast — it spreads, it builds, it grows and eventually it helps to produce some very needed bread that will feed. The kingdom of God does not so much need to be organized or institutionalized or socialized; the Kingdom of God needs rather to be fed. The Kingdom of God in the cosmos is hungry - hungry for the Word, hungry for Hope, hungry for the Bread that will give everlasting life. As lay men and women, we have been called with special gifts to special tasks. We are signs to the hungry that God is good! God is now! God is food for the journey. We come to the Congregation of St. Basil to share out gifts, to live the Word, to be signs of hope, to be bearers of bread. We are, as 1 Peter tells us, "in times past . . . not a people, but now, yes now, we are the people of God." We have come to make redemptively present and active the Kingdom Who is God. This is God's vision; this is our commitment.

Identity

The Basilian Lay Associates are an international body of Catholic men and women who seek to respond more fully to their baptismal call to holiness and service by formal association with the Congregation of St. Basil. Inspired by the Basilian Vision, their bond of unity is secured by their commitment to the spirit of The Basilian Way of Life:

Offer their unique baptismal call and special charism as laity to collaborate with the Basilian Congregation. They give support and draw strength through their prayer, ministry and communal sharing;

Serve the needs of the Church, the Congregation and each other by sharing in some dimension of the Basilian charism of education in the Church's mission of evangelization through their service, witness and prayer;

Endeavor with the Basilian Congregation, to explore and to model dynamic and effective ways of collaboration among priests, religious and laity for the development of strong Christian communities.
