The Mission & Vision of the Basilians

Welcome (Language Selection) / Home (English) / Meet the Basilians

The Mission

The Congregation of St. Basil, or the Basilian Fathers, is a community of priests and students for the priesthood. Ours is an active, apostolic community of simple vows, which seeks the glory of God in every form of priestly activity compatible with the common life, especially in the works of education and evangelization.

The Vision

We, the Basilians, a community of faith within the Roman Catholic Church, called by God to holiness through a radical following of his Son Jesus, strain forward with hope as the Spirit of God leads us into the future. Caught up like the disciples at Pentacost by a passion for the Reign of God, we have boldly chosen to leave all things for the love of Jesus and have sealed that love by a public profession of the evangelical counsels. We remain, nonetheless, all too aware of our personal and communal sinfulness, our share in the world's brokenness, our internal divisions, our own daily need to repent and believe the Good News. Compelled by Jesus' vision we see ourselves as a religious community which will proclaim the Good News by the joyful witness of our life together and will serve as an instrument of the Spirit in the creation of a new and vibrant universe where God is all in all. Our community is not merely a human construct. We are called by Jesus into the love he shares with the Father and the Spirit. He is the Temple not made by human hands.
