CONVERSING IN CYBER SPACE

Bienvenido / Página Inicial (Español) / Noticias & Información

Why should we go to Church?  What is the “Universal Call to Holiness?”  How can ministry be made more popular?  What is the Liturgy of the Hours?

These are just a few of the topics the Basilian Fathers are answering for audiences all over the world.  Utilizing the power of podcasting, associated with Apple’s iPod and iTunes, the Basilians are enlarging the classroom to include ipods and computers around the world.

“Podcasting has brought back talk radio,” says Chris Valka, C.S.B., scholastic and producer of the most recent endeavor, “Conversations with Macrina.”  “People are starving for information about everything and this includes their faith and the Church.  We developed Macrina to be a 10 minute weekly segment that answers questions about the basic tenants and misunderstandings of the Catholic Church,” says Valka.

Each podcast asks a simple question and then seeks the input of experts, theologians and other religions to provide an answer simple enough to be understood by anyone, yet remaining vigilant to the complexities of the issues.  “Our congregation is full of so much knowledge.  As teachers, podcasting is a natural fit with what we do and the faith which guides of lives.  Some people are always willing to simply cannot come to us, so we will go to them.  Like Christ, we will meet them on their level,” says Valka.
