The University of Notre Dame Press has just published Dr. Ed Houser’s book titled, “Laudemus Viros Gloriosos: Essays in Honor of Armand Maurer, CSB.” Dr. Houser is a professor of philosophy at the University of St. Thomas and the Center for Thomistic Studies. This book is part of the publications program for UST’s Center for Thomistic Studies.

The book of 15 essays is presented in honor of one of the premier historians of medieval philosophy, Armand Maurer of the Pontifical Institute for Mediaeval Studies and the University of Toronto. The contributing authors, internationally recognized scholars in the field of medieval philosophy and theology, are friends, colleagues, and students of Fr. Maurer. UST professors contributing to the volume are Dr. Mary Catherine Sommers and Dr. Houser.

Kevin White of The Catholic University of America applauds Dr. Houser’s book as a fitting homage to the honoree. “Experts in medieval philosophy will find much instruction and pleasure in each contribution, and will recognize the collection as a fine tribute to an extraordinary scholar,” said White. And Donald Morrison of Rice University says “Laudemus indeed: from the editor’s moving tribute to Armand Maurer, through discussions of Avicenna and Thomas and Ockham, to Maurer’s closing recollections of his teachers, this volume if full of well-earned praise.” Copies of the book can be ordered by calling 1-800-621-2736 or by visiting www.undpress.nd.edu.

Dr. Houser is also author of The Cardinal Virtues: Aquinas, Albert, and Philip the Chancellor, which was published in 2004 by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies Press, Toronto, Canada.
