St. Thomas High School Rallies

Welcome (Language Selection) / Home (English) / News & Info. / Press Releases

Every year Saint Thomas High School of Houston holds a truck raffle in conjunction with the annual Round Up celebration the first Sunday of every March.  This year, students were challenged to sell $266,000 of raffle tickets in order to beat last year’s record.  Not only did students reach their goal, but they exceeded that goal in record numbers, selling over $295,000 in tickets.

In addition, every single student reached a personal quota by selling at the very minimum $240 in tickets.  Father Bob Glass’ homeroom did exceptionally well.   Father Kevin Storey inspired the young men to participate through various announcements, incentives, and ingenious skits during after-school assemblies.  When the principal Father John Huber congratulated the students first and foremost for their motivation in caring for one another, the entire student body loudly cheered and applauded.

Father Huber recently stated in a parent newsletter that the Saint Thomas community was committed to ensuring that “the Basilian charisms of Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge never become a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder”. The tremendous participation of students, parents, alumni and friends prove that the entire community is committed to making Saint Thomas High School as socioeconomcally and racially diverse as possible.

We are grateful to all who have helped us in this endeavor through their time, energy and prayers.  May God continue to bless all of our apostolates and endeavors, and may all of us remain committed to issues of social justice in each one of our ministries.

—Fr. John Huber, C.S.B.
