The Congregation of St. Basil Celebrates the Ordination to the Priesthood of Fr. Carlos Andrés Gutiérrez Zapata, CSB

The Congregation of St. Basil gathered in the Chapel San Francisco de Asís, in the municipality of Taganga, Colombia to celebrate the ordination to the priesthood of Father Carlos Andrés Gutiérrez Zapata, CSB on Saturday, April 21, 2018. He was ordained by Bishop Luis Adriano Piedrahita Sandoval of Santa Marta. The Bishop was accompanied by Fathers Francisco Amico, CSB, Jack Hanna, CSB, John Huber, CSB, Rafael Lopera, CSB, and Pedro Mora, CSB. A festive noonday meal in the Colombian style was shared by all.

The following day, the joy of the celebration was shared by the Parish and school community of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and Carlos’s family including his mother, Adela, his siblings, Dora and Cristian, and his niece, Esmeralda as he celebrated his First Eucharist on Sunday, April 22 during which the Regional Superior, Father Francisco Amico, CSB, preached the homily.

The celebration of the Eucharist was followed by a concert performed by the San Basilio Band (Philharmonic Band of Instituto Nuestra Señora), and the students dedicated some musical pieces to the new Basilian Father. A festive lunch was held in the Mama Macrina cafeteria with the religious of the parish community and their families.

After a short visit with his family in Medellín, Father Carlos returned to Cali to assume his new teaching position in the Instituto as teacher of Christian Life.
