Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks Triumph in 80th Annual Boys’ Bowl – Novi, MI.
Catholic Central kicked off Boys’ Bowl weekend with a festive start, featuring the Shamrock Shuffle in the morning, followed by the Boys’ Bowl Assembly. Art students proudly unveiled the annual Boys’ Bowl mural, while the drumline performed a dynamic solo. In the much-anticipated tug-of-war battle, the teaching staff once again claimed victory over the students.

Boys’ Bowl is an annual high school football tradition that dates back to October 22, 1944. It began as a match between Detroit Catholic Central High School and Boys Town from Nebraska, one of the best teams in the country at the time. The game was initially played at Briggs Stadium, and though it ended in a tie, it established a long-standing tradition. Over the years, rising costs led to local matchups, most notably against De La Salle Collegiate, Brother Rice, and other Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Today, Boys’ Bowl remains one of Michigan’s most anticipated high school athletic events, drawing large crowds every year. Alongside the game itself, Boys’ Bowl weekend includes a Mass, breakfast, and the Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony, hosted by the Catholic Central Alumni Association. This year’s event lived up to expectations. On Sunday, Catholic Central faced off against their longtime rivals, De La Salle Collegiate, at The Elm. Wearing their new “Blessed Mother Blue” uniforms, inspired by North Carolina’s powder blue, the Shamrocks dominated with a 31-14 victory.

The weekend was a celebration of school spirit, with juniors and seniors decorating the campus with banners, including “Go Shamrocks!” and other inside jokes about the school. The combination of tradition, school pride, and fierce competition made this year’s Boys’ Bowl weekend another memorable chapter in Catholic Central’s history.
