Basilian Lay Associates are Catholic men and women called to share in the Basilian charism of community and education, committing themselves to prayer, formation, and service in the Church. Through collaboration with Basilian priests, they live out their baptismal call, supporting ministries in parishes, schools, and communities while fostering faith, fellowship, and evangelization.

Goodness, at the heart of the Basilian spirit, is expressed in the way Basilian Lay Associates serve others with generosity, compassion, and sincerity. Their commitment begins with a desire to live out their baptismal call through acts of kindness and presence within their communities. 


Whether serving as teachers, counselors, parish volunteers, or Eucharistic ministers, Lay Associates bring a spirit of care that reflects Christ’s love in everyday interactions. This goodness is also evident in their participation in community life—attending liturgies, gatherings, and celebrations alongside Basilian priests and fellow associates. 


These moments foster genuine relationships rooted in faith and mutual support. Through mentoring, listening, and accompanying others in their spiritual journeys, Lay Associates help create welcoming environments in schools and parishes alike. Their service is not simply functional but deeply relational, ensuring that those they encounter feel seen, valued, and encouraged in their own walk of faith.

Discipline shapes the life of a Basilian Lay Associate through intentional commitment and consistency in spiritual and communal practices. Associates formally commit for one or three years to live according to the Basilian Way of Life, embracing structured habits that sustain their vocation. 


This includes participation in the daily prayer of the Church, regular spiritual direction, monthly meetings, and an annual retreat. These practices are not optional but essential, grounding their service in a life of faith and reflection. Discipline also extends to their active involvement in ministry, where reliability and responsibility are key. 


Whether assisting in RCIA, supporting marriage preparation, or serving in educational institutions, Lay Associates approach their roles with dedication and accountability. Their disciplined approach ensures that their contributions are steady and impactful, providing a dependable presence within the communities they serve. Through this structure, they grow in holiness while strengthening the mission they share with the Basilian Fathers.

Knowledge, a defining Basilian value, guides Lay Associates in both their personal formation and their service to others. Rooted in a tradition that values education and intellectual growth, they actively seek to deepen their understanding of the faith through study, reflection, and engagement with the Church’s teachings. 


This formation equips them to serve effectively in roles such as teachers, spiritual guides, and leaders within parish and school communities. Knowledge is not limited to academic learning but includes a practical understanding of how to accompany others in faith. 


Through ongoing formation, participation in retreats, and shared experiences within the Basilian community, Lay Associates develop the insight needed to respond to the spiritual and pastoral needs around them. Living in connection with Basilian communities across regions like Houston, Rochester, and Toronto, they contribute to a broader network of faith and learning, ensuring that their service is thoughtful, informed, and deeply rooted in the mission of evangelization.
