WHat is a Basilian?

150 ACTIVE MEMBERS

We belive in dedicated service within diverse communities, working with God's people through parish ministry, education, and pastoral outreach.

Basilian formation places future priests face to face with their ministry — from children to the elderly — and among varied cultures, ethnicities, and values.

For those asking “Am I called to be a priest?” goodness means being approachable, patient, and understanding with everyone encountered. Discerning a vocation to the priesthood requires the capacity to love broadly, serve humbly, and accompany people where they are.

200 YEARS OF TRADITION

We don't belive that priesthood is always smooth sailing. Basilian formation includes parish placements, teaching assignments, and ministry experiences often far from one’s previous life, friends, and family.

These transitions help clarify vocation discernment by fostering trust in God’s call rather than comfort. Periods of solitude, prayer, and contemplative discernment are also essential, allowing men to reflect deeply on whether priesthood is their path.

Basilians support men discerning priesthood to develop habits that sustain lifelong service. This disciplined rhythm of mission and silence strengthens the discerning, forming his resilience, interior freedom, and the spiritual maturity required for lifelong service as a Catholic priest.

We belive in faith rooted in reason. Men discerning priesthood are formed as educators, often teaching in Catholic high schools or universities as part of their ministry.

Becoming a Basilian priest means committing not only to faith, but to educating others—especially young people—through teaching, mentorship, and intellectual leadership.

Guided by mentors, educators, this formation integrates theology, philosophy, and pedagogy, preparing priests who can communicate truth with clarity and compassion. For men discerning a vocation to the Catholic priesthood, knowledge unites faith and education in service to the Church and society.
