Susan Metzler Awarded Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice
Congratulations to Susan Metzler who received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice in recognition of her work in bringing justice and healing to victims of clerical sexual abuse.
On Monday, November 28, she was presented with the medal at a special Mass celebrated by Cardinal Thomas Collins of the Archdiocese of Toronto and Bishop Ronald Fabbro, CSB of the Diocese of London. This honour is awarded by the Pope to members of the clergy and laity for their service to the Church.
“Susan has received the Papal honour, Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice , for her many years of striving to bring about justice for allegations of sexual abuse of minors by clerics and religious from diocese across Canada. Susan works toward achieving just and fair settlements in these matters. Because of her many years of advocacy, she deserves the gratitude of the church and the Pontiff,” said Father David Katulski, CSB.
Susan Metzler is a partner at Miller Thomson LLP and has represented dioceses across Canada as well as the Basilian Fathers and other religious orders, communities, and congregations in allegations of sexual abuse of minors by members of the clergy.
